 Hawaiian Bread Rolls Copycat

Hawaiian Bread Rolls Copycat Recipe

Ingredients ...

¼ cup water, warm
2 teaspoon active dry yeast
1 teaspoon granulated sugar
3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
⅓ cup packed brown sugar
1 ½ teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 egg
¾ cup pineapple juice
½ cup unsalted butter, room temperature
2 tablespoon olive oil
For Tops to Bake:
1 egg (for egg wash)

Instructions...

*Combine the warm water, yeast and granulated sugar in a small bowl, then stir. Set aside for 10 minutes.
*In a large stand mixer bowl, add the flour, brown sugar, salt, vanilla, egg and pineapple juice. Add the yeast mixture once bloomed/proofed.
*Using a dough hook, knead the mixture until incorporated. (If mixing by hand, mix until the mixture forms a ball.).
*Add in the room temperature butter and knead with the dough hook for 10 minutes or until it is smooth. If doing so by hand, flour a clean surface and knead by hand until a smooth dough forms.
*Coat a clean bowl with olive oil (1-2 tablespoons) and place the dough ball into the bowl.

*Cover with a towel and let it rest/rise in a warm place for one hour. Turn out the dough on a lightly floured surface and pat it down. Cut the dough into 16 pieces.
*Spray a baking dish with non-stick spray or lightly grease and set aside.
*Roll the pieces into balls and place into a baking dish that has been sprayed with non-stick spray (or lightly greased) and set aside to rise for 30 minutes.

*Preheat the oven to 350°F.
*Whisk together one egg and 1 Tbs. water in a small bowl to for an egg wash.
*Brush the tops of the rolls with egg wash and bake for 20-25 minutes. Once out of the oven, take a stick of butter and run across the tops, if desired.
